Vocal jazz at both ends of the weekend, Nolan's Odyssey at the most local screen, a one-hour Donmar thriller with the cleanest logistics in London and a five-star Cyrano matinee — plus a Black-owned food festival, an all-Asian KERB takeover and the final days of Ally Pally's camera obscura. Warm Friday (26°C) then showers Friday and Saturday, drier Sunday — the picks lean indoor. Comedy survives the Edinburgh exodus, narrowly: both picks carry a curfew flag.

"Polly Gibbons is unmistakably a class act" — The Guardian. The UK's closest thing to the Krall/Salvant lane, in duo with Ronnie Scott's All Stars artistic director James Pearson on piano, in the intimate art-deco cabaret room under Piccadilly. A 21:15 second show exists; take the 7pm.

Bass-baritone with trumpet, earning Gregory Porter comparisons — Jazz Journal on "low notes that reverberate in your chest cavity", and The Jazz Mann wondered in print why he isn't more widely known. Standards plus originals from The Young Man With The Old Soul. Take the 6pm first house, not the 8pm.
Music · Brazilian vocal jazz (Sunday lunch)
Brazilian-inflected contemporary vocal jazz — her album Verde took her to Rio's Beco das Garrafas, and Jazz Journal calls her work "creative and engaging… presented with bold clarity." The venue bills it as "a lovely, atmospheric show for a Sunday afternoon", with Sunday lunch served. Bossa fix and roast in one sitting.
Saturday evening is genuinely thin for the taste profile within the curfew — everything decent starts at 8.30pm or later. Also: Hampstead Jazz Club is closed for all of August, and Ronnie Scott's and Kings Place both sit behind bot-walls this week (their programmes were cross-checked via listings sites — that weekend is soul/funk/blues at Ronnie's, nothing missed).
Cinema · The event film (runtime flagged)
Nolan does Homer — the mythic epic from the house-favourite director, playing at four local screens at once. Runtime flag: at 172 minutes an evening show lands past the curfew, so take a matinee or late-afternoon slot and let the single-screen Phoenix do it justice.
Cinema · One-off tribute screening
Waititi's warmest film — a boy and his grumpy foster uncle on the run in the New Zealand bush. Feel-good without a gram of schmaltz, and a one-off Sam Neill tribute night at the most local screen. Saturday's rain-proof answer.
Cinema · Throwback (the definitive cut)
The great philosophical sci-fi noir in Scott's definitive cut, on a proper screen with an Everyman sofa — catnip for a Villeneuve/Nolan sensibility. Pick an early-evening slot and it's a home-well-before-ten Sunday.
Theatre · Real-time thriller (★★★★ Time Out) — final week
★★★★ Andrzej Lukowski, Time Out — "Russell Tovey is terrific in this gripping realtime thriller" with "a rollercoaster momentum that means there's no pause to be cynical." Chloë Moss adapts the Danish film Den Skyldige, directed by Punchdrunk's Felix Barrett; the Arts Desk calls it "spine-tingling and gut-tightening." One hour, one actor, closes 15 August — the best logistics of anything in London.
Theatre · RSC transfer (★★★★★ Time Out) — matinee play
★★★★★ Holly O'Mahony, Time Out — "Adrian Lester is sensational in this pitch perfect RSC overhaul… rarely do rhyming couplets sound as sexy as when coming from Adrian Lester's mouth." Susannah Clapp in the Observer approves too. The earned West End exception: verse drama with genuinely sharp dialogue, Lester at career peak. Runs to 5 September.
Comedy · ★★★★★ Chortle (curfew flagged)
★★★★★ Tim Harding, Chortle — "uncompromising, hilarious, powerfully strange work." Dark, razor-sharp absurdism rather than political satire, and the closest thing to a must-see comedy event in London this weekend — the run is selling down fast. Flag: the 9.30pm start makes it a late one; only worth it if the curfew flexes.
Comedy · Local mixed bill (Mary Bourke anchored)
Mary Bourke headlines a five-act bill — Steve Bennett, Chortle praised her "politically charged invective… a gloriously vicious rant about the gilet-wearing middle classes." Acerbic deadpan political material, with US political comic Erich McElroy on the same bill. Runs past 10pm, but it's on the doorstep with free parking next door after 6.30pm.
Edinburgh Fringe opens this very weekend and the London circuit has emptied — the Bill Murray's preview season stops Thursday and Chortle's North London listings are literally empty. Two anchored picks, both timing-flagged, rather than a padded four.
Food festival · This weekend exactly
Black Eats LDN's marketplace takeover of Hackney Bridge — dozens of Black-owned traders doing food, drinks and hand-crafted everything from ceramics to jewellery, plus music on the terrace. The market-hall units give decent cover if the showers arrive.
Street food · Indoor, rain-proof
A special all-Asian KERB with 50+ stalls inside Corner Corner — Old Chang Kee's Singaporean curry puffs, cult bakes from Lil Wong Bakes, Korean-Mexican fusion from Komex. Big indoor venue, so the weather is irrelevant.
Photography · Final weekend, hyper-local
Pinhole London marks 200 years of photography by turning a room at Ally Pally into a camera obscura for nine days only — the London skyline projected, ghostly and upside down, through a pinhole. Ten minutes away, three pounds, gone after Sunday.
Drinks · Fri & Sat only (weather-flagged)
London's best bars pop up in an 18th-century Bloomsbury square normally closed to the public — signature serves, tastings, live music, pétanque and a silent disco. Marquee-heavy but open-air between tents; Friday evening looks the warmer, drier bet of its two nights.

From the team behind May's wildly popular JUNG festival: 60+ stands of handmade Korean art, ceramics, homeware and skincare — with free boozy mango makgeolli slushies for the first 1,000 through the door each day. Mostly covered warehouse setting.

A big comedy festival at one of London's icons — Frank Skinner, Diane Morgan, Phil Wang, Katherine Ryan and Judi Love across the run. In the Nudge's own words: "this one's, um, indoors" — the perfect hedge for a showery weekend, and 14 minutes from home. Check which names land on which night.
